Revealed: What killed UoN lecturer’s son whose body was found in South B house

The 13-year-old son of University of Nairobi (UoN) lecturer Hannah Khahugani died as a result of excessive bleeding in the stomach, a postmortem report released Thursday evening has revealed.

The autopsy report, which K24 Digital has seen, further showed that Khahugani’s son had malignant ulcers in the stomach, which led to the hemorrhage.

A postmortem examination on the boy was conducted at Chiromo Mortuary on Thursday evening (October 24), Makadara DCIO Henry Kiambati told K24 Digital.

The teenager’s body was found in Khahugani’s living room in South B estate in Nairobi on Wednesday at 6pm.

“The boy’s mother was in the house at the time. We are investigating the incident,” Nairobi area police boss, Philip Ndolo, told K24 Digital on Thursday.

Steven Mwangi, the caretaker of Kifaru Apartments, where Hannah Khahugani lives, was the first person to report the boy’s death.

Mwangi said he had gone to the suspect’s house to collect monthly house rent on Wednesday, when a foul smell emanating from the house caught his attention.

“When I knocked on her door, she did not open. I called her on mobile phone, she did not receive the call. However, I could hear her phone ringing in the living room. So, I peeped through the window. It was at that point that I saw the boy’s body, which had been covered in a blanket, placed on the floor in the living room,” Mwangi told Citizen Television on Thursday.

“When we broke down Khahugani’s door, we discovered that the boy was already dead. His mother was seated on the floor of the kitchen while in tears,” said Mwangi.

Police said preliminary investigations showed the boy had been lifeless for five days.

It is suspected that Hannah Khahugani was holed up in the house praying for her son’s resurrection.

Mwangi said the occupant, a single mother, had stayed in the house for at least four years, and described her as an originally “lively and happy-go-lucky” woman, who became very withdrawn.

Khahugani, a lecturer at UoN’s school of nursing, formally worked at Kenyatta University and Nairobi Hospital.

She is currently in custody at Industrial Area police cell, and is expected to undergo a psychiatric test on Monday, October 28.

The court will, thereafter, advice on the way forward in the case.
