Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has given fresh details about a chopper that crashed in Kajiado County earlier this morning.

In a statement released on its Twitter handle, the KDF says the chopper was on a training mission before it crash-landed.

KDF confirmed that the accident occurred at around 9 am at Ol Tepesi area in Kajiado West.

“Today at around 0900hrs, a Mi 171e Air Force Helicopter, on a training mission crash-landed at the Ol Tepesi area in Ngong, Kajiado County. Rescue missions are underway,” the KDF statement read.

Kajiado West Deputy County Commissioner Moranga Morekwa had earlier confirmed the accident and told K24 Digital that he was heading to the scene.

He said he will reveal more details once he assesses the situation at the scene.

According to video footage going viral on social media, a huge smoke is seen emanating from the scene of the accident.
