The former Nandi County council chairman Charles Tanui has passed on at a Nairobi hospital, his family has confirmed.

"As a family, we accept that mzee has left and we call upon Nandi residents and leaders to mourn with us," his son Erick Tai told K24 Digital.

"Dad has been unwell for a couple of months as he was battling diabetes, kidney problems and pressure-like complications," he explained.

Councillor Tanui succumbed to diabetes and pressure complications while undergoing the treatment.

He has been instrumental in peacebuilding and cohesion at the boarders of Nandi and Kisumu counties where he was serving as chair of Peace Initiative committee.

Tanui hails from Chemase ward in Tinderet Sub County where he served as Councillor for over 20 years.
