Residents in Riat Hills, Kisumu, have every reason to smile after Azimio la Umoja - One Kenya coalition presidential flagbearer Raila Odinga, on Thursday, August 4, 2022, donated his one-acre piece of land to be used for the construction of a water project in the area.

The commissioning of the project was witnessed by Raila himself, Kisumu governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o among other leaders and officials.

The project which will serve 50,000 people is expected to address the issue of water shortage within Riat, Korando B and Kogony areas.

"Today Rt. Hon Raila Odinga has demonstrated the act of selflessness by donating his one-acre parcel of land in the leafy Riat hills, Kisumu for the construction of the Otonglo-Riat water project for the public good.

"This was witnessed this morning as he handed over the title deed to the chairman of Lak Victoria South water works Development Agency (LVSWWDA), Mr Dan Omino during the groundbreaking ceremony of the project," a statement shared by Nyong'o reads in parts.
