Rabai MP dies after presenting nomination papers to IEBC

Rabai MP William Kamoti perished in a road accident shortly after he presented his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Kamoti died on the spot after being involved in the fatal crash. The accident happened when a Toyota Prado the MP was travelling on lost control and rolled several times.

The tragic accident happened on Sunday night May 29, 2022, along Mombasa/Malindi highway in Mnarani area of Kilifi county.

According to one eyewitness, the Prado's rear wheel came off causing the vehicle ferrying the Rabai MP to lose control and roll several times.

Another witness said Kamoti's car rolled while the driver was trying to overtake a lorry heading towards Mombasa.

Eric Nyamawi who witnessed the accident said the MP's car was trying to overtake a lorry but unfortunately the vehicle hit the lorry causing it to roll severally.

EMT couldn't resuscitate Rabai MP

Videos circulating online show an emergency medical technician trying to resuscitate the MP who lay motionless at the scene of the accident.

The Rabai MP was declared dead after efforts to revive him bore no fruits. The victim's body was taken to the mortuary at Kilifi Referral Hospital.

Orange Democratic Party (ODM) confirmed Kamoti's death via a tweet on social media. The party said the Rabai MP was from presenting his nomination papers to the Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) when he was involved in the accident.
