Puzzle as fire razes down Uhuru Secondary dormitories after death of student

Police officers in Buruburu have launched investigations into a fire incident that razed two dormitories at Uhuru Secondary school in Jericho, Nairobi.

The two dormitories which were burnt on Sunday, June 19 night at around 9:00 pm housed 119 Form Four students.

The fire was contained by firefighters from Nairobi County and no student was injured nor killed.

“Two dormitories accommodating form four students numbering 119 were brazed down by the fire. The cause is yet to be known but investigations are on to establish the root cause. No injury or death occurred,” the police report read in part.

Separately at the same school, a student died under mysterious circumstances within the school compound after he complained of not feeling well at around 5:00 pm the same day.

Confirming the death to K24 Digital Buruburu OCPD Francis Ngugi Kamau said the student had come from the field after a basketball game when he told his friends that he was not feeling well.

Kamau said that the student collapsed at the door of the hall and was rushed to the cosmopolitan Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

“The student had come from playing basketball at around 5:000 pm in the evening. He told his fellow student in the hall that he was not feeling well. He collapsed at the door and was rushed to the Cosmopolitan Hospital where he was unfortunately pronounced dead,” the officer explained.

The police have spoken to the students and calmed them as they proceed with their investigations.

The body of the student was transferred to the morgue waiting for an autopsy.
