The main suspect in the murder of Kitengela-four bikers will be detained for four more days to allow further investigations.

40-year-old Benson Melonye Ole Mungai, a livestock broker within Kitengela, was arrested in connection with the heinous murder of the four friends that occurred on August 8.

Melonye was arraigned in Kajiado law courts on 17th August where the court granted an application by Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers to detain him for 10 more days to allow for investigations.

The suspect was on Friday, August 27, arraigned at the Kajiado law court where DCI officers applied to hold the suspect for four more days.

Kajiado resident magistrate Becky Cheloti granted the application.

The suspect is a resident of Enkamuriaki village where Fredrick Mureithi Wanjiru (30), Victor Mwangi Wanjiru (25), Mike George Ondusso(29) and Nicholas Kyengo Musa (28) were found murdered.

A preliminary police report indicated that the four, including two brothers Mureithi and Mwangi, were lynched by members of the public on suspicion they were in the village to steal livestock.

Police later issued a statement saying the four were not livestock thieves and have no criminal record.

So far, at least seven people including two chiefs have recorded statements with the DCI with five suspects being on the detectives' radar.

Tension remains high in the sleepy village with a series of meetings being held to discuss the murders that continue to receive condemnation from various quarters.

The villagers are said to be holding fundraising activities to facilitate a lawyer who will represent community members who will be arrested and prosecuted.

The suspect will be held at Kitengela police station.
