The main suspect in the murder of a Laikipia University first year student has died.

Ezra Kipkorir Koech died on Friday, October 1 at the Nyahururu Teaching and Referral Hospital where he was taken after he was beaten by a mob within the university.

The suspect allegedly stabbed Gertrude Chepkoech to death on Wednesday, September 29 in an incident that shocked the country.

Police said that Chepkoech was injured and bled to death even before she could be taken to hospital.

She had a deep cut on the throat and another deep one on the left side of her stomach.

The family of the deceased is yet to claim the body of Koech. K24 Digital has established that while in the hospital he was being guarded by police officers both in the day and at night.

Thomas Kiptoo who is the facility’s administrator on Friday evening said that Koech had been booked into the facility as an unknown male adult.

“He was seriously beaten and succumbed to head injuries. The injuries were very severe,” Kiptoo said.

It has emerged that the deceased was a friend to Koech’s girlfriend and they equally shared a room.

However, the girlfriend parted ways with Koech after the deceased raised concern that he once tried to force himself into him.

He was cornered immediately he stabbed Chepkoech by students who seriously beat him up.

The suspect had been warned by the Peka Hostel management never to step inside the hostel at any time.

This led to serious differences with the girlfriend and the suspect vowed to revenge, little did they know that he would get back there three days later.
