Presiding officer, his deputy arrested in Mombasa

Police in Kisauni, Mombasa County have arrested a presiding officer and his deputy for sabotaging the vote counting process upon learning that a candidate had garnered more votes.

Kisauni Constituency Returning Officer Ibrahim Wario reported at Nyali Police Station that the suspects Nicholas Nyamuya, and Sawia Mutes had declined to count the ballot papers at the polling station.

Nyali Police Commander Daniel Masamba said the duo will be charged with willfully rejecting or refusing to count ballot papers an offense under the election Act 2016.

"The suspects are already in police custody awaiting to be arraigned in court to face relevant charges," Masamba said.
