President Uhuru Kenyatta, on Wednesday, lifted the dusk-to-dawn nationwide curfew that has been in the country for over a year.

The President made the announcement during the 58th Mashujaa Day celebration at the Wang'uru in Kirinyaga county.

"By the authority vested in me a President, I hereby order and direct that the nationwide dusk to dawn curfew that has been in effect from March 27th, 2020 be and is hereby vacated with immediate effect," the President said.

The president said that he made the decision to lift the curfew after noting that the Covid-19 infection rates have decreased in the country. He also noted that the country's vaccination drive is approaching moving towards its set targets.

President Uhuru, however, cautioned Kenyans against neglecting the set Covid-19 protocols. He noted that the country is not yet out of the woods therefore Kenyans should remain vigilant against contracting the virus.

The President also reviewed the number of people allowed to gather at once in the areas of worship. He allowed up to two-thirds of the congregants to be in the places of worship but must follow the Covid-19 protocols.
