President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday launched digital economy blueprint during the ongoing 2019 Transform Africa Summit in Rwanda.

The blueprint is based on the national priorities as written in the Kenya Vision 2030 and the government big four agenda.

“It is our hope and wish that all the member states shall peruse this Blueprint and find value in adapting it within their own ecosystems to realize the potential of digital transformation that will leapfrog our economies to prosperous heights,” President Kenyatta said during the launch.

The blueprint is part of Kenyans commitment in its contribution to the Smart Africa Alliance initiative that is working towards digitizing Africa economy and trade. The Initiative targets 24 countries across the continent.

The Blueprint aims to tap into the unique opportunities that will spur the unlocking of the benefits of the digital economy potential and guide the transformational journey espoused by new and emerging technologies.

According to the blueprint, the region’s digital economy growth will depend on the connectivity across the region especially for the the rural and urban poor to digital financial and government services, markets and information.

Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Information Communications and Technology Joe Mucheru who accompanied President Kenyatta said no one will be left behind and the government will continue to engage all Kenyans.

“We will ensure that no-one is left behind, and for that we must work together. The Government will continue to engage with all Kenyans to ensure that we are forward looking but also flexible and responsive as new opportunities and challenges arise,” Mucheru said.

The 24 member states of Smart Africa Alliance initiative are expected to adopt the Digital Economy blueprint and develop their respective country strategies.
