A Mombasa woman whose husband allegedly beat following a domestic row has died.

Eznas Ipale was pronounced dead at the Coast General Outreach hospital in Mtongwe where she had been rushed by her mother-in-law Jacinta Wanjiku.

Detectives drawn from the Directorate of criminal investigations(DCI) Likoni are now seeking orders to have the husband identified as Henry Thuku detained to allow police complete investigations in relation to her death.

According to the investigating officer, Levin Nyamai informed Mombasa Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet, that he is undertaking investigation into the alleged offence of murder which took place on February 6.

Nyamai stated that the suspect hit the deceased using a blunt object on her stomach, leading to her death.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was rushed to Coast General Outreach Mtongwe hospital. On arrival, she was referred to a private hospital for scanning first before treatment but she was pronounced dead on arrival at the private facility," he told the court.

Police suspect that she was four months pregnant at the time of her death "There is a suspicion that she was pregnant at the time of her death. These are areas we need to cover and establish if indeed she was pregnant," police affidavit reads in part.

He stated that police needed 15 days to have Thuku detained at Likoni police station to allow them to record statements from crucial witnesses, conduct postmortem, and obtain treatment notes from the hospital where the deceased died.
