A middle-aged man working as a houseboy of Nyeri PCEA preacher, Samuel Theuri, committed suicide Tuesday after killing his 37-year-old lover, who had visited him.

Erick Muriithi, who stays at the servants’ quarters at the preacher’s Kiamwathi Village home, fatally hacked his partner with a panga before committing suicide by hanging.

His body was found dangling from a rope tied to an avocado tree near the servants’ quarters.

It remains unclear why Muriithi, who was in his 40s, killed his girlfriend, who was unknown to his employer.

“I never knew Muriithi had a lover. I last saw him on Tuesday evening, and he did not appear depressed. I suspect the woman visited him late in the night,” Theuri told K24 Digital.

The two bodies were moved to Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

Police say they have begun investigations into the couple’s death.
