Detectives on Thursday arrested 34-year-old Edward Nduati in connection with an armed robbery that occurred last evening in the posh Lavington neighbourhood in Nairobi.

Armed with pistols, the suspect and his accomplices who are still at large, accosted their victim shooting and injuring her as she parked her car in her home in Lavington West Estate Phase II.

After refusing to comply with their orders to wind down her car windows, they smashed the screens with a huge stone and shot her.

Her screams drew the attention of Good Samaritan, a boda boda rider who stopped by and raised the alarm but the armed thugs shot at him, hitting him in the back of the head.

They then made away with the woman's handbag which had cash, phones and her personal documents.

The robbers used a motorbike to escape but Dagoretti-based police on patrol who had heard the gunshots rushed to the scene and took the injured woman to the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Police launched an overnight manhunt for the suspects and arrested the 34-year-old man in the small hours.

The officers recovered several mobile phones from the suspect, gadgets that have since been forwarded to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) for analysis.

The search for the other suspects and the firearms used during the robbery is ongoing.
