A police officer attached to Kibera patrol base who was attacked on Tuesday has died while another officer is admitted in a serious condition after he was shot by unknown gunmen in Kasarani on Thursday morning.

Police constable Ephantus Mugambi was on Tuesday evening found lying unconscious inside a car parked at the patrol base and was taken to hospital.

It was later established that he had earlier on Sunday been hit on the head with cue stick during a fight with a bartender at Boys Bar within Kibera.

The officer sustained internal head injuries and died in the ICU at the Nairobi Women’s Hospital.

The bartender, identified as Mohamed Adel, and two other suspects were on Wednesday traced and arrested and will be charged in court when investigations are complete.

The other injured officer, Sergeant Fredrick Munene of Sunton police post was shot by unknown gunmen on the stomach at around 2am on Thursday.

The officer was in company of two of his colleagues when he stopped and started interrogating a man.

Two other suspects joined and shot the officer before they escaped on foot.

The injured officer fired one round. He has been admitted at a city hospital in a serious but stable condition
