Police in Machakos have arrested their 38-year-old colleague on suspicion of raping a 45-year-old woman on Thursday evening, April 2.

Constable Nestus Mwambai of Police Service Number 226193 is alleged to have sexually assaulted his victim, who had been summoned to Kikesa Patrol Base in Matuu to record a statement over her alleged involvement in the theft of a neighbour’s goat.

While at the police post at 6pm, Constable Mwambai pulled his victim into his house and raped her, a police report filed at Yatta Police Station on Friday 10am says.

The suspect, Nestus Mwambai, is said to have threatened his victim against screaming lest he kill her.

Later, Mwambai’s colleague, Constable Daniel Kihara of Police Service Number 236990 went to the suspect’s house, where she found the woman crying. Upon asking her what the matter was, the victim said she had been sexually abused by Mwambai.

Constable Kihara alerted the OCS, who went to the scene and took the victim to hospital.

Tests performed on the woman at the Yatta Level 4 Hospital, confirmed she had been sexually assaulted.

Mwambai was arrested, and is being held at Yatta Police Station.

Confirming the incident to K24 Digital, Machakos County Police Commander Karanja Muiruri said: "He (Mwambai) must carry his own cross, we won't allow him to ruin the reputation of the National Police Service. As you know, the court operations are currently scaled down due to coronavirus outbreak. However, I spoke with the magistrate [of Kithimani Court] who told us to arraign the suspect on Monday, April 6,” said Muiruri.
