The Special Service Unit, formerly SCPU, in conjunction with Criminal Research and Intelligence Bureau have recovered hundreds of television sets that were stolen from a go-down in Athi River on December 1, 2019.

The SSU detectives told K24 Digital that the organised criminal cartel broke into the go-down in Athi River and robbed watchmen of the electronic devices worth Sh15 million.

The criminals then loaded the electronic devices into a lorry and drove it to an unknown warehouse.

"We did a detailed analysis of the crime scene... we managed to recover the lorry which was used to ferry the stolen electronics within Kitengela," the detectives said.

On December 31, 2019, the detectives traced 130 flatscreen TVs and other assorted electronics at a residential house in Mbiuni, Machakos County.

"Two suspected were also arrested. Forensic Intelligence led the detectives to Kitengela where the lorry which was used to ferry the over Ksh.15M worth of Syinix TVs during the robbery had been hidden. Further investigations led the team to the house in Machakos County where the said part of the robbed items were recovered and tallied.

Continued investigations led the SSU detectives to another house, this time in Buruburu Phase IV in Nairobi where a suspect, John Maina Ndungu, was arrested.

In his house were 243 pieces of 32-inch Syinix smart TVs.

The three suspects who have been arrested, namely, Maina, 56, John Kitonyi Mbindyo, 33, and Charles Itute Ngui, 50, are set to be arraigned on Monday, January 6, 2020.

The suspects will be charged with robbery with violence.
