Two men who ran to Kamukunji police station to seek refuge after being accused of attacking and robbing traders are yet to be charged after investigating officer sought more time to conclude the investigation.

The officer told the court that releasing the suspects might interfere with the investigation.

The two suspects namely Moses Maina Irungu and Anthony Mugo Irungu are said to have been armed with a new jembe stick which had bloodstains on them.

In a sworn affidavit filed at Makadara court, the investigating officer from Kamkunji police station told the court that they arrested the two on the night of October 26 after being chased by about 20 angry members of the public baying for their blood.

The duo is said to have attacked Joel Maina, Philip Ouma Otieno, and Timothy Maina Irungu using the sticks.

The court was further told that it was established that the two suspects were in the company of other men who were also armed with Jembe sticks and panga.

Adding, “Two workers of ATS Matatu Sacco and egg vendor at the matatu stage sustained serious injuries following attacks."

Another new jembe stick with blood stains was recovered from one of the angry members of the public who allegedly took it from one of the suspects who ran away from the scene.

“Maina sustained deep cuts and only one victim identified as Ouma has recorded statement and issued a P3 form but not yet filled by a police doctor," part of the statement read.
