The National Police Service has on Wednesday November 10, 2021 released a statement addressing the violence witnessed at Deputy President William Ruto's Kondele rally in Kisumu county.
The Service stated that the violence emanated after local groups differed about the criteria used in the distribution of campaign logistical funds.
In the official statement, undersigned against the name of the Police Spokesperson Bruno Isohi Shioso, police gathered intelligence about an imminent break of violence owing to the differences among the said groups.

The statement further states that the police alerted Ruto's security team of the building tension and advised the second-in-command to avoid the affected area during his tour.
"Based on intelligence gathered, there was tension within Kondele owing to alleged distribution of campaign logistical funds amongst local groups. This intelligence was promptly shared by police with H.E the Deputy President's team with recommendation to skip the affected area during the tour," the statement read in part.
The Deputy President however made his way to Kondele where, after an address, a group of youths pelted his motorcade with stones.
Following the violence, police officers lobbed teargas to disperse the rowdy youths and contain the situation.
The police say that no injuries were reported during the violence and that some vehicles were however destroyed.
