Police in Kiambu have recovered three homemade guns and a toy pistol which criminals have been using to terrorise residents of Kikuyu.

Also recovered were hundreds of stones of bhang, litres of illicit alcohol, fake Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) stickers and pangas.

Addressing members of the press at Kikuyu Police station, Kiambu County Commander Perminus Kioi said a fourth suspect was lynched by members of the public near Sigoni Golf club.

"We mounted a multi-agency operation following rising cases of insecurity in Kikuyu and managed to nab the trio. A fourth one wasn't lucky because he was apprehended by members of the public who lynched him and set his getaway motorcycle on fire," he said.

The police boss, who was flanked by the Kikuyu OCPD Kirui and CID boss Peter Ochieng, said the criminals have been attacking locals both in their homes and along roads.

"They use motorcycles to raid homes sporadically before fleeing to the neighbouring Nairobi county," he said.

Kioi said that the exercise to ensure the security of locals would continue unabated and urged members of the public to endeavour to volunteer information on criminals' hideouts.

"Let me thank the public and Nyumba Kumi for sharing crucial information leading to numerous arrests. Let nobody allow a criminal to live in their midst, " he said.

He said that the suspects who are being held at Kikuyu police station will be arraigned in court tomorrow.
