Police recover firearm from passengers travelling in a lorry in Turkana

Police in Turkana County has arrested four individuals who were found in possession of a firearm within attack prone area en route to Lodwar.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, police officers attached to Kalokol Police Station were tipped by members of the public that the four were armed and we’re travelling in a lorry of registration number KAH 098R.

The four included a driver-Sammy Githau, two aides-Jackson Masika, Abu Ekai and a passenger- Calpeters Eng'or.

“Calpeters boarded the vehicle at a place called Lotorob and was to pay the driver Ksh600 up to Lodwar,” the report read in part.

The suspect was also carrying small luggage which was wrapped inside a small tent material.

The police officer stopped the vehicle and demanded to conduct a search but the driver was hesitant forcing the officers to apply force.

“After searching the luggage of Calpeters Eng’or it was discovered that the wrapped-up luggage was an AK-47 rifle which did not have any serial number and an empty mark four magazines,” the report further revealed, adding that the rifle was stripped with no ammunition.

All the occupants inside the lorry were escorted to Kalokol Police station within Turkana County for further investigations awaiting being arraigned in court on Monday, September 11.
