Police are pursuing a preacher suspected to have allegedly defiled over 20 girls and impregnated several others in Mwingi Sub-County, Kitui.

On Wednesday, police rescued more than 10 girls in different rental houses where the pastor is said to have held them hostage as sex slaves.

The pastor's wife was also arrested and is assisting police with investigations.

Mwingi Sub-County OCPD, Peter Mutuma, said the preacher identified is on the run.

The storm started when angry parents in Kwa Mbungu village, about 3km from Mwingi town, protested outside a church demanding to know the whereabouts of a girl who had scored 304 marks in 2019 KCPE exams.

One of the parents called the police who cornered the pastor's wife and seized about six girls at Kwa Mbungu village and four others from a rental unit in Mwingi Town.

The residents accused the pastor of preying on minors, with many of the girls said to have dropped out of school and others given birth at tender ages.

One of the locals told K24 Digital that his niece was impregnated by the said pastor but the case went unresolved even after reporting at the Mwingi Police Station.

The police boss said preachers have been preying on young girls who are brought to them by their parents 'demon possession.'

The OCPD said that investigations have been launched and the preachers who still on the run would be arrested and brought to book.

Mutuma also urged parents to be very cautious on the whereabouts of their children especially during this long holiday and not to trust any adult with their young girls for they may fall prey.
