Police officers warned against taking huge loans

Police officers across all ranks have been cautioned against taking huge financial loans.

In a memo released on Tuesday, officers were warned against taking loans above a third of their total payment.

"It has come to the attention of the Inspector General of National Police Service that many police officers have committed their monthly salaries to above a third of their basic salary, contrary to the Government regulations," the memo read in part.

It further revealed that it is for that reason that most of the officers were compromising their integrity.

"This has impaired the efficiency, integrity and dignity of the police service. Some officers have resulted into indulgence I'm corruption activities to fill the financial gaps," the memo read in part.

According to the memo the police service provides disciplinary proceedings that should be taken against officers who engage in embarrassing deals which include; ring barred when promotions come, removal from the service and retirement under public interest.

Police officers were also warned against engaging in habits that might embarrass the service.

"All commanders should strictly ensure that the regulations on one-third of officers basic salary are adhered to.

In the recent past, a number of police officers have been arrested by officials attached to the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) for engaging in corrupt deals.
