Two police officers and a civilian were on Monday arraigned before a Kisumu Court and charged with robbery with violence.

The officers, Sergeant Albert Kimutai(69952), PC Martin Murimi(260154) were both attached to Sawagongo Police post in Siaya and Michael Odhiambo appeared before the Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora.

They were charged with the offence of attempted robbery with violence contrary to section 297(2) of the penal code.

According to court documents, on August 12, the trio alongside others attempted to rob Pravin Ramji Patel of his money at Shreeji filling station within Kisumu East Sub-county while armed with AK-47 and G3 rifles.

The trio however pleaded not guilty to the charges pressed against them.

Justus Okoth, a lawyer who represented them pleaded with the court to release them on a reasonable bond terms.

He also requested to be supplied with copies of the statement and witnesses account.

"I pray that my clients be released on favourable bond terms,"he said.

On his side, the state council Sylvester Thuo who was handling the matter did not object Okoth's request and released them on a bond of Ksh300,000.

The three were arrested on August 19 2021 and were detained at the Central Police station while waiting to be arraigned.

According to police reports, the suspects were captured on CCTV cameras while in the act.

The case will be mentioned on September 7 and heard on September 14.
