Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi County on Saturday evening arrested a man for not walking properly.

Fredrick Ochillo was allegedly nabbed by two armed police officers who also reportedly extorted him. However, they were also arrested before they could set the man free.

It all started when the two officers identified as Eric Odhiambo and Tom Wanjala who are attached to Shimo La Tewa Prisons arrested Ochillo and started demanding money from him.

The two warders are currently detained at the station.

However, an irritated member of the public who had also been extorted by the duo reported the matter at Mtwapa Police Station and officers swiftly arrested them.

"Officers received information from members of the public that there were people masquerading as police officers and extorting money from the members of the public using a motor vehicle of registration number KCF 055M at Casuarina area in Mtwapa," the statement read in part.

Police officers arrived at the scene and found the vehicle with the two officers and the victim.

Odhiambo was nabbed with a roll of cannabis, one packet of razler, a kitchen knife, one prison service card, one baton, one jungle uniform trouser, one jungle belt, one military jungle shirt, a military jungle cap, one torch, one unserviceable walkie talkies and Sh2,400.

Questioned, the victim alleged that the duo nabbed him and accused him of not walking properly on the road which led to his arrest.

The suspect was asked to record statement and later released.
