Police in Emgwen, Nandi County have launched investigations into the death of a 53-year-old woman.

According to a police report, Rose Ng'asura succumbed to stab injuries in her breast and chest.

"We received the information about the incident and we are told the woman was sleeping in her kitchen with one of her daughters.

"Shortly, the woman screamed for help after feeling injured. The daughter, who was with her, screamed for help and their father who was in a different house came to rescue her rescue," a police officer, who spoke to K24 Digital, said.

The officer said the weapon used to kill her had not been recovered.

"The house is locked using a curved nail inside and we are still looking for an object which was used to stab the woman. The family members have recorded statements so far," he added.

The deceased's neighbours said the woman and her husband, who is a retired teacher, have been having domestic quarrels.

"We are told mwalimu (husband) had invited his brother to spend a night with him and discuss family matters. So the woman slept in the kitchen with her daughters and at 3:00 am, screams were heard," Luka Bett, a villager elder, said.

The woman was pronounced dead on arrival at Kapsabet County Referral Hospital.

"Police came and took the blankets and other items found in her room but we are told the woman died while on the way to Kapsabet. We believe justice and truth will come out on exactly what happened to her," the administrator added.

The body was taken to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital morgue awaiting postmortem.
