Police have launched investigations into the arson incident that happened last night, Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at Our Lady of Mercy Girls High School in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi.

The fire occurred in one of the school's dormitories named Mount Kenya at around 11:20 pm and was started by an unknown person.

It was immediately put off though it had already consumed a window curtain, pillow, blanket, and mattress.

The police recovered a matchbox from the scene concluding that the fire was started by a person and not an electric volt as the students had claimed.

"The police visited the scene and established that the fire was started by an unknown person since a matchbox was recovered from the crime incident. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire was not as a result of an electric volt as the students were alleging," the police report stated in part.

Necessary action was taken by the police as they continue with the investigations to establish the culprits.

Elsewhere in Mathioya Murang'a County, a 36-year-old man died after he got burnt inside his house on Wednesday, October 11, 2022.

The deceased identified as Patrick Mwaniki was inside the single-roomed semi-permanent house which caught fire and whose cause is yet to be established.

The fire got managed by members of the public but Mwaniki had already died.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kiriani mortuary waiting for an autopsy as the police continue with investigations.
