A family in Maili Sita, Bahati in Nakuru County is crying for justice after their loved one was injured by police officers on Sunday evening (May 31).

Ibrahim Ndung’u, a boda boda operator, was heading home minutes to 7pm, when police officers stationed on a road in Maili Sita flagged him down.

The rider defied the order, allegedly fearing that the 7pm curfew cut-off will find him outside his home.

It was at that point that the police officers, who were in civilian clothing, allegedly threw a piece of wood in between the boda boda rider’s rare wheels, causing the rider to fall off the motorbike which had careened off the road.

The cops are said to have physically assaulted the man, leaving him nursing serious injuries.

Ndung’u was taken to a nearby hospital, where it was established that he had sustained injuries to the face, head and chest. The patient has since been discharged from hospital, and is recuperating at home.

Ndungu’u’s wife, Esther Ndung’u, told K24 Digital that the family is now facing economic hardship because her husband, who is the sole bread-winner, has been rendered immobile.

“We are now depending on Good Samaritans for food and other basic stuff,” said Esther.

Police say they are investigating Ndung’u’s allegations.
