Police in Thika arrest three muggers, recover stolen phones

Police in Thika, Kiambu county has arrested three suspected thieves believed to be behind mobile phone snatching syndicate in the busy town.

The three were arrested by an anti-mugging squad comprising officers drawn from the sub-county after snatching several phones from members of the public while using motorbikes as escape automobiles.

"After escaping using a motorbike, the three later boarded another escape motor vehicle," Thika West Sub County police commander Daniel Kinyua said.

Some assorted phones were recovered from them.

Kinyua called on Thika residents to volunteer information about the muggers to help sleuths flush them out.

The three were arrested following public outrage over increased muggings in the town that the criminals has been executing in broad daylight.

Thika residents have been agitating for arrest and persecution of the criminals who are reported to be living in the sprawling slums of Kiandutu in the outskirts of the industrious town.
