Police in Murang’a are holding in custody eight suspects who are believed to be behind the gruesome murder of a middle aged woman over the weekend.

The eight are aiding the police to unravel the murder of Joyce Wanjira, 38, whose mutilated body was found dumped near Kagaa secondary school in Kenol, Maragua Murang’a County.

According to Murang’a county police commander Donatha Kiplangat, the investigating officers went to court to request for more time to hold the suspects as they delve deeper into the matter.

Though she did not reveal the identity of the suspects, the county police boss said she is hopeful the investigating team will be able to get to the bottom of the matter.

She said Wanjira’s body was found dumped in a thicket in the morning of Saturday, August 21 by students who were going to school. It had been cut into three pieces and wrapped in a sack.

According to the preliminary investigations, she said, the woman was killed elsewhere before her body was dumped at the scene where it was found.

She said they have crucial leads they are pursuing to establish the circumstances under which the deceased was killed.

“We were informed that the deceased and her husband were not in good terms and were living separately but we don’t want to jump into conclusion as yet” she said.

Kiplangat however appealed to the members of the public who could be having any crucial information that would help in investigation to liase with the police.

“We would appreciate any information from the members of the public that would help us in our investigations” she added.

Mary Wanjiru, one of the residents said she saw the students mill around the scene where the body had been dumped and they went to check what was happening.

“We looked closely and saw it was a human body which had been wrapped in a sack,” she said.

The body, she said was of a middle-aged woman but the residents could not recognize her.

Joseph Maina, another resident said the body had been cut into three pieces and it was a horrible scene to look at.
