A police officer was on Thursday, September 2, arraigned in court for allegedly stealing from a suspect.

Constable John Kennedy Nyonge attached to Kays Police within Kenyatta Road Trading Centre in Kiambu County is facing charges of stealing, handling stolen property and being in possession of fake currency.

A police report seen by K24 Digital indicates that the officer had arrested Vincent Ndolo Musango for allegedly being in possession of fake currency.

He asked the suspect to give a bribe before being freed on a police cash bail.

In his report, the victim told the police that he was intercepted by three people shortly after alighting from a matatu. He was handcuffed and ordered into an awaiting vehicle.

While in the vehicle, the three drove towards Gatundu and it was inside the car that they took his bag which had Ksh120,000.

Upon arrival at Kay Police station, Musango alleges that he was asked to pay Ksh100,000 after the three accused him of being in possession of fake currency.

Musango called his father who came to the station and negotiated with the officers who freed the suspect after paying Ksh10,000.

The officers are said to have withheld Musango's iPhone 7 Plus phone, telling his father to collect it upon clearing the 'balance'.

"The reporter called his father to help him be bailed out. He came and negotiated the amount with the three giving them Ksh10,000. They took his Phone make 7 Plus asking his father to meet them the following day to clear the balance," the report stated.

Musangu later reported the incident Juja Police station and the officer was trapped and arrested with Ksh85,000 fake currency in the bag of the victim.

"Upon conducting a quick search he was found with Ksh85,000 fake currency belonging to the reporter and his mobile phone too," the report added.
