Kenyan police arrest 2 Ugandan gov’t officials in Lake Victoria

Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) officer and his driver were arrested Bumbe Beach in Siaya County for 'harassing' Kenyan fishermen.

In a statement, police said the two had confiscated two boats and arrested eight Kenyans at Lake Victoria Kenyan waters.

"The coast guards were able to chase the Ugandan team and rescued the eight Kenyan fishermen.

"They also managed to arrest one UPDF officer namely service No. RA/186110 staff SGT Biryomomaisho Adonia age 40 years and Kulobone Jama driver of Uganda Revenue Authorities age 28 years and one AK47 Riffle S/NO 48014438 loaded with 29 rounds of 7.62 by 39 MM special recovered," the police statement read in part.

The two are being held at Usenge Police Station for being in Kenya illegally.

"Both were handed to Usenge Police Station and charged for offenses of being in Kenya illegally while armed and armed robbery against boats," the report added.

Police said the two will be transferred to Port Victoria Police Station for further action.
