Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga was received with pomp and colour as he unveiled his manifesto based on a 13-point agenda.

The former Prime Minister pledged to undertake massive social-economic transformation by implementing policies aimed at drastically reducing the cost of living.

Raila promised to fulfil a range of promises within the first 100 days in office if he wins the August general election.

Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate unveiled his vision for Kenya with a focus on rebooting the economy, social transformation and restoration of the rule of law.

Raila lays out his plan

The Azimio presidential flagbearer unveiled a raft of benefits that the public will enjoy should he form the next government.

He said he will pay special attention on debt management, war on corruption, economic stimulus programmes, manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, improving the ease of doing business, energy, tourism and building a digital economy.

Raila also promised to fast-track universal quality healthcare under a programme to be known as Babacare, social protection interventions – through which poor families will get monthly Ksh6,000 stipends.

The ODM leader, who is making a fifth stab at the presidency, said his administration will be a “fresh start” for Kenya.

“This manifesto embodies the hopes and aspirations of our people, and outlines how they would like the business of government to be transacted on their behalf,” Raila said.

Given that the country is reeling from the effects of a large debt burden running in excess of Ksh8 trillion, and which has become part of the campaign agenda, Raila promised to restructure and re-profile Kenya’s debt to achieve debt sustainability and reduce the future debt burden.

Raila promised that Azimio government will develop favourable policies and offer incentives aimed at boosting manufacturing as the engine for creating wealth and employment by encouraging new industries as well as small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to grow.

Lack of jobs especially among the youth and the high cost of living are currently the biggest concerns for a majority of Kenyans.
