Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa was formally inaugurated as the second Chancellor at the Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) on Friday, February 9, 2024.

In a statement on his official X account, the telco boss expressed enthusiasm and determination to take up and deliver on his new role.

"It’s truly a privilege to take on this role, and I am humbled by the responsibility entrusted to me by the university. As I embark on this new journey, I am filled with a sense of purpose and dedication to advancing the mission of Meru University of Science and Technology," he said.

Adding; "Together, let us continue to strive for excellence, embrace innovation, and empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers."

Ndegwa will be replacing Equity Group Managing Director and CEO James Mwangi whose tenure lapsed on July 20, 2023.

Notably, Mwangi was in August 2023, appointed as Chancellor of the Open University of Kenya.

Meanwhile, Ndegwa was appointed to the position by President William Ruto via a gazette notice in November. He will serve for a period of five years.

 “In exercise of the powers conferred by section 38 (1) (a) of the Universities Act, 2012, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint– Peter Ndegwa Waititu to be the Chancellor of the Meru University of Science and Technology, for a period of five (5) years, with effect from the 1st November 2023,” part of the notice read.
