A clergyman has been arrested after he allegedly defrauded Ksh2 million meant for the procurement of church seats at ACK Mwea Town Church.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Gilbert Kariuki, and his wife had been contracted by the church leadership to deliver 410 seats to the church before April 10, 2023.

The church leadership which says it contracted the man of the cloth on February 9, 2023, reported that he went missing after collecting the money and efforts to get to him have been futile.

"On February 9, 2023, the church leadership contracted Apostle Blessed Gilbert Kariuki and his spouse to deliver 410 seats to the church on or before April 10, 2023, but the 'Man of God' neither delivered nor showed up.

"As reported by the church faithful at Wang’uru Police station, the man of the cloth swindled them their money before disappearing. Efforts to reach him turned futile, prompting the church vicar to file the report," the statement reads in parts.

Kariuki who ministers at Jesus Is Alive & Lord International Ministries in Ruiru, Kiambu county was arraigned at Wanguru law courts on Monday, May 29, 2023.

He faced charges of obtaining money by false pretences.
