The family of Fredrick Oyugi, the late Form One student at Isibania Boys’ High School, have rejected an autopsy report showing that their son succumbed to heart failure on September 5.

Oyugi left their Rongo home for school on September 4, only for the family to be informed that he was dead a day after he reported for third term studies.

According to the mother of the deceased, Risper Oginga, her son passed out in class in the presence of his teacher.

“I received a call from the school asking me if my son has complained of any issue while at home during the school holiday,” Risper said.

Upon her arrival at the institution, Risper said, the school attempted to conceal the truth from her and it was only when she got angry that she was told what had happened to her son.

When they visited the Migori mortuary where her son’s body was moved to on September 5, they found the teenager’s body lying on a table.

And now, an autopsy report released Tuesday showing Oyugi died from heart failure has been vehemently faulted by the deceased’s parents.

The postmortem examination report was released by pathologist Dr Benjamin Dibile.

Dr Dibile said the school had asked the students to occupy new classrooms, and, according to him, the change in environment could have contributed to the boy’s health woes.

Oyugi’s family, however, say that that statement doesn’t make any sense.

The boy’s family have now organised for another independent autopsy to be done on Wednesday, September 18.

“The initial autopsy was compromised in favour of the school,” said the boy’s mother, adding they won’t bury their son until “satisfactory” postmortem results are out.
