Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has condemned gay practices in the country saying the lifestyle goes against religious beliefs and African culture.

Speaking in his constituency over the weekend, Sudi urged locals to embrace African norms and shun "dirty and evil" Western lifestyle.

The controversial legislator was reacting to the murder of Eldoret-based LGBTQ activist and fashionista Edwin Chiloba, whose body was found stashed in a metallic box along the Kipenyo-Kaptinga road in Kapseret on Wednesday, January 4, 2023.

While criticizing statements by gay activists regarding the murder, Sudi said the deceased was not killed because of his gender orientation but "cheating".

“There is a young man who was murdered because of issues to do with gay rights. There are claims that he was murdered because of a love triangle. He had two boyfriends...this is evil that is happening in US and other places and must be condemned," Sudi said.

“As leaders, we are strongly condemning such lifestyle. If you want to engage in such evil thing, please do elsewhere. . .I was surprised that these gay rights activists are not condemning the murder but because the deceased was gay."

He said the Kalenjin community does not promote homosexuality and locals should not entertain the lifestyle.

“Everyone should listen to me; our good Kalenjin culture abhors such evil culture. Our Kalenjin culture talks about children going to school, then getting married and having children and your children will do the same and also have children,” the MP added.

“Nowadays there are a lot of evil things going on that man and man are dating and even a woman and a woman dating. . . this is evil. those doing it if their parents did it, they won’t have existed.”

Chiloba killed in love triangle

Yesterday, police said the prime suspect in the murder had confessed to killing Chiloba.

Jackton Odhiambo confessed to the police that he was driven to commit the murder after finding out that Chiloba had another partner.

Following Odhiambo's confession, police are now investigating a possible love triangle.

Langas OCPD John Odhiambo said that the suspect colluded with two of his friends to kill Chiloba. The two have also been arrested.

The suspect confessed that he murdered Chiloba as revenge for betraying him in their relationship.

Police said they established that Odhiambo and Chiloba used to live together as 'husband and wife'.

Chiloba’s caretaker Alex Nyamwea said that Odhiambo called him using the deceased's phone on January 4, 2023, informing him that he was vacating the house they lived in together.

Odhiambo and Chiloba were spotted having fun at a popular club on the outskirts of Eldoret town on January 1, 2023, as they ushered in the New Year.

Police established that duo left the club at around 3:00 am and headed to where they lived. When they arrived at the house, the neighbours said they heard some commotion which subsided after a while.

Neighbours claim that they did not follow up on the cause of the commotion. They, however, told police that they spotted two people loading a metal box into a vehicle whose registration number was concealed and left.

Boda boda riders said that they saw a vehicle, whose registration number was concealed, dump the box along the road and they alerted the police.
