One person has been safely evacuated from the ruins of a collapsed gold mine in Abimbo, Siaya County 40 hours later after another one died.

The two are amongst eight persons who were trapped on Thursday after the 300feet gold mind went under.

According to David Orido who is the manager of the mining site the, the walls of the site crumbled after reinforcement on it's wall collapsed.

"The shaft crumbled after the reinforcement on it's wall collapsed," he said

Orido is still optimistic of excavating the soil at the entrance and rescuing the remaining six.

Speaking to K24 Digital, the deputy County Commissioner of Bondo, Richard Karani has said the evacuation process is going on as now six are still trapped in.

Bondo Member of Parliament Gideon Ochanda who visited the site yesterday has stressed on the regulations to control the mining activities rather than completely closing the sites.

This is because the people depend on the mining to bring food on their tables.

"They do not require a serious licensing. The process of getting the license is beyond their means. Just like in fishing, there are those who use the gears which are not recommended, it's the situation that forces them to engage in the illeagal activities," said Ochando.

He called on the relevant authorities to regulate them through their Sacco's.

"They should regulate them through their Sacco's and not shutting down the mining site," added Ochando.

The miners were ten at the time of the incident but two had managed to escape leaving behind the eight.

The body has been taken to Bondo County hospital Mortuary.

The process is still underway to remove the remaining miners safely as they are supplying them with Oxygen.
