One person died on the spot and scores were injured in a grisly road accident on the Kenol -Sagana highway on Thursday, August 18.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when a lorry heading to Sagana developed break failure and rammed onto several oncoming vehicles.
Lorry hits several cars
The lorry hit two public service vehicles, three salon cars, and a lorry before landing on a ditch.
The lorry, which was descending on a steep slope, missed the diversion route on the road which is under construction, and rammed onto a cow and barriers before hitting the vehicles.
Joseph Mburi, one of the witnesses, said he heard loud bhang, and shortly after screams filled the air as the victims cried for help.
"The matatus were ferrying students since the schools were opening today. This section of the road is a blackspot because we have had several accidents here and this is a major concern to us, " he said.
Simon Njiru, who was driving one of the vehicles involved in the crash, was lucky to escape with minor injuries.
"The lorry hit my car on the side badly damaging it but I am lucky to have escaped death," he said.
Police said those injured were rushed to the nearby hospital for treatment as investigations into the incident commenced.
