One dies after vehicle ferrying body for burial overturn

Residents of Kamuwongo area, Mwingi North were left shocked after a vehicle ferrying a dead body for burial overturned killing one on the spot.

The said vehicle was hired to ferry the casket and mourners to Katooni village in Mumoni sub-county before it overturned 300 meters from Kamuwongo market minutes past noon on Thursday.

Confirming the incident, Kamuwongo Chief, Jane Mwende said the vehicle rolled severally before resting on its back. The casket containing the body lay in a ditch after the accident.

"The driver lost control of the vehicle following a front tyre burst and a middle-aged woman lost her life on the spot," she said.

Mwende added that two mourners together with the driver fled the scene in shock and their whereabouts are currently unknown.
