A police officer attached to Kwanza police station in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County is among nine suspects being held at Kitengela police station for robbery with violence.

The latest comes after the Kajiado law court granted the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) a miscellaneous application to hold the suspects for ten more days to allow further investigations.

The officer identified as Denis Mokua Monda was arrested along with four other suspects in a hideout in Nairobi area on Monday, October 17, 2022.

The arrests came a few hours after four other suspects were arrested at a hideout within Mlolongo area. At the time of their arrests, police recovered two toy guns leading to the arrest of their accomplices who have been terrorizing residents of Kitengela town and its environs.

According to a detective pursuing the case, the rogue officer has recently been absconding from duty and was also being pursued by a complainant over theft claims.

The detective who sort anonymity noted that the officer is also believed to have been hiring his firearm to criminal gangs and coordinating a chain of criminal gangs within Nairobi area.

Isinya Sub-County police commander Ancient Kaloki stated that the nine suspects currently in custody are the ring leaders of the gang that has taken a toll on Kitengela residents leading to a rampant spate of incidents of theft and robbery with violence.

Kaloki says the gun-totting gang also uses crude weapons and machetes. The police boss added that the DCI had sorted an application to hold the suspect for ten more days for interrogation that will lead to the arrest of the other criminal gang members.

"The insecurity incidences in Kitengela town are well executed by the criminal gang which we have so far arrested some of the ring leaders. The well-coordinated crimes are conducted by criminals who mutually work together," Kaloki stated.

He further stated that some of the items including electronics that were reported to have been stolen were recovered in the suspects' hideouts.

"We believe we have sufficient evidence that we will use to charge the suspects in a court of law," Kaloki added

The police boss assured residents that the security apparatus were on high alert to enhance security in the populous town warning criminals that their days were numbered.

He further appealed to the members of the public to volunteer crucial information that will lead to the arrest of criminals.

The arrest and detention of the suspects come at a time Kitengela has reported increased theft and robbery with violence cases especially in Sifa, Noonkopir, Ky'angombe and Milimani area
