Nyeri residents have been asked to be on the alert over a group of fraudsters swindling unsuspecting people of their money in the name of planning a delegation to visit Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday, November 23.

Chinga Ward, Othaya Sub-County, Member of the County Assembly (MCA) Kiruga Thuku, said the conmen are asking unsuspecting locals to pay between Sh1, 000 and 2, 000 ostensibly to facilitate their travel to the DP Ruto's official residence in Karen, Nairobi.

“The conmen are going round claiming they are compiling a list of individuals to visit the DP and I am told they are asking people to pay Sh2,000 and others Sh1, 000 for fare,” Mr Kiruga reported.

Speaking to KNA on phone on Wednesday, the MCA said a handful of locals have already fallen prey to the scam in Mathira and Kieni Sub-Counties.

“Everyone should be advised not to fall prey to this con game,” cautioned the MCA, noting that people never pay anything to visit the DP.

Further, the MCA claimed that he contacted the DP’s office and was informed there was no such visit planned.
