A court in Nyamira County on Friday, December 21 sentenced a 25-year-old house help to 15 years in jail after she pleaded guilty of sexually assaulting a minor.

Martha Bosire, who was accused of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old girl, was arraigned before Simon Arome the Keroka Senior Resident Magistrate.

It emerged that Bosire committed the offense on diverse dates between November 4, 2021, and December 9, 2021.

Bosire is accused of inserting her fingers into the private parts of the minor on diverse dates.

She then went ahead and used spirit to treat the wound and lured the minor with sweets in order to silence her.

“I accept my mistake and plead for lenience since I am an orphan and have a young baby who depends on me for upkeep. I promise that I will not repeat this again,” Bosire pleaded with the court.

On its side, the prosecution argued that the grandmother of the minor was the one who learnt about the matter.

This is after she decided to check her private parts and found that she had numerous visible injuries and she informed the minor’s parents.

A decision was then made that the matter be reported to the police immediately.

The two-year-old was then taken to Borabu Sub County Hospital where she was treated and doctors told the parents that their daughter had been sexually assaulted.

In a rare gesture, Bosire did not oppose anything the prosecution charged her with.
