Nyali Member of Parliament, Mohammed, Ali has accused a senior Coastal politician of attempting to kill him during Tuesday’s by-election in Mswambeni, Kwale County.

The first-term MP recorded a statement at Diani Police Station where he narrated his encounter with the politician.

In the statement, Ali said that he was leaving Jomo Kenyatta Primary School polling station when the politician allegedly confronted him with over 50 youths.

“The politician suddenly confronted me with the youth numbering about 50. He suddenly punched me and I fell down, hurting my knees in the process,” the MP said.

After the assault, Ali said he hurriedly walked to his car but the politician and his goons followed him and smashed the backseat car window.

The MP allegedly told the police that the youths were armed with knives and other blunt objects and were on a mission to harm him.

Ali has been among political leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto who campaigned for Feisal Bader, an independent candidate, who was announced the winner of the by-election after beating Orange Democratic Movement's man, Omar Boga.

Feisal garnered 15, 251 votes while Boga got 10,444 votes.
