Former powerful Cabinet Minister Simeon Nyachae will be buried at his Nyosia village home in Kisii County on February 15.

In a statement signed by Nyachae's eldest son, Charles, who is a Judge at the East African Court of Justice, the family said that the ceremony will be a private affair.

“On behalf of the family and the funeral committee of Mzee Simeon Nyachae, who rested on February 1, 2021, I wish to announce that he will be laid to rest at his home in Nyosia village, Kegati in Nyaribari Chache,” said Charles.

However, the family said that the public will still get a chance to bid farewell to the late leader at a service on the same day at Nyanturago Stadium in Nyaribari Chache starting at 9 am.

For family and friends in the capital city, the family scheduled a funeral service at the Nairobi Central SDA Church-Maxwell next week on Thursday, February 11.

Nyachae died on Monday, February 1, 2021, at the Nairobi Hospital aged 88.

Born a son of a powerful colonial chief, Nyachae rose from a District Officer in the government of Kenya's first president, the late Mzee Kenyatta, to become the Chief Secretary and Head of Public Service under the second president, Mzee Daniel Arap Moi.

He served in various senior government roles, including as a Cabinet minister for Finance and Agriculture.

Nyachae also served as a minister in former President Mwai Kibaki's government.
