The National Police Service (NPS) has launched a multi-agency security operation in Turkana County following an attack against the locals and security officers.

In a statement on Monday, September 26, NPS Spokesperson Bruno Shioso said police have been deployed at Kakiteiteu village in Turkana East where the attack happened on Saturday, September 24.

"A multi-agency security operation today has been launched in the area to arrest the perpetrators, recover the stolen animals and firearms and return normalcy to the area," Shioso said.

During the attack, eight police officers, a chief, and two civilians were killed.

Police action

Police's statement came hours after President William Ruto said he had received a comprehensive report following the attack and ordered security operations to begin immediately.

"After receiving a comprehensive report on the Turkana/Pokot incident that led to 10 security/administration officers losing their lives, I have instructed security agencies to deal firmly, decisively, and conclusively with those involved. Cattle rustling will stop na sio tafadhali," Ruto said.

The bodies of the officers killed by the bandits arrived in Nairobi Sunday evening and were taken to Forces Memorial Hospital mortuary.
