Niger’s Labour and Employment Minister Mohamed Ben Omar died from coronavirus, the state broadcaster announced on Monday.

His Social Democratic Party (PSD) had announced that the 55-year-old minister died on Sunday at hospital in the capital Niamey, but did not disclose the cause.

He had served as labour minister since 2017, the AFP news agency reports.

Niger has so far confirmed 755 coronavirus cases and 37 deaths.
