The state-owned milk processor, New Kenya Corporative Creameries (New KCC) has announced plans to open a goat and camel milk production centre.

The move appears to be boost the dairy sector following calls from leaders, especially in Nyandarua County who urged KCC to purchase the produce from local farmers.

Recently, Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni said farmers in Nyandarua County were engaging in dairy goat farming and urged New KCC to consider buying the produce from them.

New KCC managing director Nixon Sigey said the production of the new products will be undertaken in its Nanyuki plant.

The demand for goat and camel milk has been on the rise because it is highly nutritious.

A litre of goat milk retails at an average of Sh200 while cow milk sells at less than Sh100.

New KCC has been on an expansion drive and recently President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered Treasury to release Sh1 billion for the modernisation of Kiganjo and Nyahururu factories.
