Nairobi City County Assembly Majority Leader and Makongeni Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Imwatok has been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) over his remarks at Chungwa House last week.

The commission said it is investigating the remarks made by Imwatok on January 25, 2023, during a meeting between Raila Odinga and Nairobi elected leaders.

In a summon letter to the legislature, NCIC stated that Imwatok said "Azimio eee Azimio aaa, wamama tuungane tumalize kazi, wababa tuungane tumalize kazi, vijana tuungane tumalize kazi, Azimio eee Azimio aaa.

"Lazima tumalize kazi ya ikulu na tunaongoja baada ya hapa Baba atwaambie kama ni hiyo Sunday tutoke uko Jacaranda , kama tanatembea Jogoo Road, tuingie town, tupande processional way, gate A."

NCIC sets date

The legislature is required to appear before the commission on Tuesday, February 7, 2023.

"You are hereby notified to appear before the NCIC committee on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at 11 am at the offices located at Britam Towers to assist the commission with the ongoing investigations," part of the letter by NCIC stated in part.

This comes a day after the Korogicho MCA Absalom Onyango was freed by the Milimani law courts without condition.

Absalom had been arrested by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives over his remarks during an Azimio rally at Jacaranda Grounds.

In the ruling, the Milimani Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe blasted the police and prosecution for being insensitive to the changes in the law while seeking orders to detain the MCA.

The magistrate also put Attorney General Justin Muturi on the spot for failing to present amendments to the law to Parliament as directed by three judges of the superior court.

The AG had been given one year to make the amendment in the law which he has failed to do to date.
