Police officers in Narok County have launched a manhunt for a man who hacked his friend to death at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in Tendwet area.

Narok South Sub-County police boss Magdalene Chebet said that the suspect differed with the deceased identified as Amos Rono over a debt of an unknown amount.

The suspect who has only been identified as Kiplagat is said to have picked a sharp object which he used to attack the deceased aged 24, who sustained a deep cut in the throat and died on the spot.

“He was armed with a sharp object, which he used to end the life of the suspect. The suspect had a deep cut on the throat, and he died on the spot. Efforts to save his life bore no fruits,” Chebet said.

According to Chebet, police were following possible leads that would see the suspect nabbed in due time.

“He might be hiding for now, but he will soon be smoked out from his hideout,” she said.

Witnesses told the police that the suspect stormed Rono’s home on Tuesday night and asked that he is handed his money.

However, when Rono tried to explain himself, Kiplagat went berserk and attacked and slit his throat.

“He was left lying in a pool of blood as the suspect took to his hills when he saw him fall to the ground and started bleeding profusely,” Chebet said.

When police arrived at the scene of crime, the suspect had already fled and the victim was dead.

The body was taken to Longisa Hospital Mortuary which is located in Bomet county awaiting postmortem.

The officers investigating the case are yet to get the murder weapon which was used to end Rono’s life.

The two were evicted from Mau Forest in 2019, and they became great friends once they settled in the IDP center.

Since the break-out of the Covid-19 pandemic that has not only hit Kenya but also the globe at large, such cases have been on the rise.
